The Chosen offers a deeply spiritual and morally uplifting journey through the life of Christ, providing valuable insights into Christian faith and values.

For discernment

This is a rare thing: a dramatized life of Christ that treats Jesus and Scripture with reverence while giving the disciples and the people they meet believable interior lives, and its portraits of forgiveness, calling, and Jesus' compassion for the broken are edifying and often moving. The main thing to weigh is discernment, not offense: the series invents a great deal of extra-biblical backstory and dialogue, so watch it as devotional imagination rather than as the Gospel text itself. A few scenes are heavy for younger or sensitive viewers, including on-screen demon possession, an implied assault on Mary Magdalene, a realistically depicted miscarriage with visible blood, and a graphic crucifixion. Married couples kiss affectionately and wine is present at feasts in a natural, biblical way. For a believer this is genuinely nourishing viewing, best received alongside an open Bible.
